HEAT RECLAMATION IN ALUMINIUM MELTER BY THE USE OF REGENERATIVE BURNERS WITH BURNERS WITH SPECIAL QUICK CLEANING DEVICE

Objective

The aim of this project is to reduce about 40 % (612 Toe/Year) the fuel consumption of an existing aluminum melter through the use of regenerative burners with quick cleanout provision for replacement of the regenerative beds in a matter of minutes.
This provision will extend the use of such high efficiency burners for most direct fired melting furnaces with dirty effluents.

The demonstration project consists in the recuperation of the energy contained in the flue gases by replacing the existing cold air burners and controls in a 25.5 Ton aluminum melter by a pair of Twin Bed Regenerative Burners with some additional new features applied to the burners, process and furnace.
These additional features should be the following :
- Higher velocity burner flames.
- Flame directed internals to allow flame configuration.
- Provision for firing one or both burners simultaneously.
- Quick cleanout provision for bed replacement.
- Furnace pressure control.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
