HEAT RECOVERY FROM ULTRA HIGH FREQUENCY TRANSMITTERS AND IMPROVEMENT IN HEAT PRODUCTION AND SUPPLY

Objective

Distilled water vapour which ensures the cooling of the UHF transmitters is today evacuated by auxiliary circuits (water steam air). The innovation of the method lies in the recovery heat in the distilled water vapour almost.
At air pressure its storages and its injection into the traditional heating installation to cover all or part of the heat demand resulting from heat loss from the building. The aim is the adjustment of the similar recovery to the different transmitting stations of television. With RTBF 50 TOE per year be saved.
The construction phase was completed on 22.05.85 despite a blockage-induced pressure increase in a transmitter condensate pipe; the diameter of this pipe was subsequently increased from 22 mm to 40 mm. The problem did not re-occurr.
During the monitoring phase changes was also made to the steam condensate direct discharge pipes leading to the outer air coolers. This had to be done since for a number of weeks the roof-situated and unprotected distilled-water steam circuit was frozen. Since these changes were made the system has operated successfully. At the same time a meter was installed to measure air-cooler operational hours.
Measurements of outer and inner temperatures, the oil, heat and operational hours of the outer air coolers were taken: the respective totals are summarised below. It is estimated that the project will exceed expected 18 TOE/yr energy savings, and a joint company is being established to exploit the technology.
It is provided the project will be finished in October 1984: the last year will be employed for evaluation of operation of the plant. The heat recovered is stored in two 5000 liters capacity tanks insulated by mattress of mineral wool. When the transmitters start the pumps start too and fill the tanks. When they are completely filled two valves close and the dissipation of the heat is executed as now outside. As soon as the temperatures detected by temperature sensors are superior respectively to the temperatures of the heating distribution return circuit the valves open and the heat is recovered. In the opposite case these valves are closed. There is a circuit of auxiliary heat production:
Two cascad boilers able to work at low temperature are driven by a controller connected to temperature sensors and a time switch nocturnal temperature sensors and a time switch nocturnal temperature reduction. The circuit feeding the air heating unit is coupled prevemptively on one of these boilers. In the case of non covered demand by the control the motorized valve obliges the boiler to start on request of its own thermostat. The temperature control of the circuits of heat distribution if carried out by motorized valves according to a sensing element of environment.
