NOVEL TOTAL HEAT RECOVERY SYSTEM FOR CALCINATION AND DRYING PROCESS IN A GYPSUM FACTORY

Objective

The project has as aim the demonstration that the EEC industry can get a significant energy savings by showing that a novel high energetical efficiency gypsum plant will give important energy and cost benefits over existing technology.

New design of an energy efficient system for gypsum calcination and drying. The proposal includes :
- a novel calcination mill with an internal classifier for milling and calcining the gypsum in the same unit;
- a four stages energy recovery system; hot air returning from the main fan to the gas generator, use of the hot air coming from gypsum cooler for the gas generator and space heating, use of a part of air from main fan for the gypsum preheater and finally, installation of gypsum temperature homogenizer which reduces water supply and therefore the energy consumption in the drying process. The gypsum dryer is arranged for direct heating utilizing duct burners and a heat recovery system.
