APPLICATION OF AN ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM TO A NETWORK OF SPANISH TOURIST HOTELS

Objective

To demonstrate the possibility of energy saving within a nation wide group of hotels through centralized management as a function of level of room occupancy, climatological conditions and energy consumption in normal condition. The project includes, out of 86, 3 hotels of different size and services offered, spread over Spain ( Toledo:106 rooms; Avila : 121 rooms; Salamanca : 206 rooms).
The expected energy savings are 15% of the total (i. e. cooling, heating, electricity, water, . . . ) energy consumption (Toledo : 44,1 TEP; Avila : 25,0 TEP; Salamanca : 53,4 TEP).

In each of the 3 selected hotels, a local programmable system with measurement devices, adapted to the type of hotel as well as a micro-processor is installed; it allows for local management.
These local systems are linked through the network of the Spanish National Telephone Company to a Central Data Management Center with a central computer, located in Madrid; this CDMC assures the follow -up, monitoring and evaluation of the local systems. The project should enable to establish a programme properly adapted to each hotel taken into account parameters such as its size, services offered, potential energy saving capacity, distance from Madrid,

. . . The project includes 5 phases -
1 : detailed analysis of the system's application in each of the hotels;
2 : adjustment or adaptation of the equipment;
3 : implementation of the installation - start up of control;
4 : implementation of CDMC and communication network - development of program;
5 : monitoring
