CHARGE PREHEATING BY FUME WASTE HEAT

Objective

To adapt Dalmine's rotary bloom furnace in order to recycle waste gas so as to preheat the furnace charge. It is expected to achieve a 2. 000 TOE/yr energy saving for a production of 500. 000 Tonnes /yr (10% of the actual specific energy consumption). Payback time is estimated at 4 years.

The plant consists of the following main parts :
- The preheating furnace, designed and supplied by ITALIMPIANTI in GENOA, consists of a chamber where preheating takes place, the blooms handling system, the waste gases ricirculation system, the instrumentation system for the automatic control, the electrical equipment.
- The special handling for loading and unloading the blooms into and from the preheating chamber, designed by the Engineering Dpt of DALMINE and made by DELTA in MILAN.
- The hydraulic equipment for the operation and control of handling system, designed by the Engineering Dpt of DALMINE and made by CDM in BERGAMO.
- The electrical equipment for the operation and control of handling system was made by utilizing a Westinghouse programmable controller.
The installation was made by Roncelli in Bergarno on the basis of the automation operative sequences designed by the Engineering Dpt of Dalmine.
