Objective
THE GUIDELINES FOR SUCH A STUDY WILL BE:
- TO DISTINGUISH THE MAIN EFFECTS OF THE MODIFICATION OF BIO-OILS THROUGH THE CATALYTIC HYDROTREATMENT PROCESS;
- TO EVALUATE THE EMULSIONS AND THE BIO-OILS WATER MIXTURES BEHAVIOUR;
- TO EVALUATE THE METHODOLOGY OF CHARACTERIZATION OF THE FUEL OBTAINED (BURNABILITY AND STORAGE) AND TO GET THE FIRST INDICATIVE RESULTS.
THE FIRST STEP OF THE STUDY WILL DEAL WITH CATALYTIC HYDROTREATMENT OF PYROLYTIC OILS IN ORDER TO IMPROVE THEIR CHEMICAL PROPERTIES AND TO AVOID OR MINIMIZE THE PROBLEMS OF STABILITY AND STORAGE. THE SECOND STEP, STARTING FROM MODIFIED PYROLYTIC OIL WILL DEAL WITH THE EVALUATION OF BIO-OIL, BIO-OIL WATER HETEROGENEOUS EMULSIONS.
HYDROTREATED OIL OR EMULSIONS WILL BE CHARACTERIZED BY USING ANALYTICAL METHODS FOR CONVENTIONAL FUELS (APPROXIMATIVE AND FUNDAMENTAL ANALYSIS OF SPECIFIC HEAT) AS WELL AS VISCOSITY AND BURNABILITY DURING REAL OPERATING CONDITIONS. THE LATTER IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT TO BE STUDIED. THE PROBLEMS RELATED TO THE CONVERSION OF THESE OILS WILL BE FURTHER INVESTIGATED.
THE PROGRAMME PRESENTED BELOW AIMS AT THE STUDY OF THE FEASIBILITY OF THE EVALUATION OF PYROLYTIC OIL THROUGH BOTH CATALYTIC HYDROTREATMENT AND STABILIZATION OF THEIR EMULSION IN ORDER TO IMPROVE THEIR CHEMICAL PROPERTIES AND, CONSEQUENTLY, THEIR USE FOR DIRECT UTILIZATION IN DIESEL ENGINES.
ITALENERGIE WILL CREATE EMULSIONS AND PREPARE THE ADEQUATE AMOUNTS OF PYROLYTIC OILS FROM SULMONA PILOT PLANT AS A RESULT OF DIFFERENT BIOMASSES. THIS COMPANY WILL ALSO PREPARE EXPERIMENTAL MIXTURES FROM ORIGINAL PYROLYTIC OIL AS WELL AS FROM BIO-OILS ALREADY TREATED BY THE UNIVERSITY OF LOUVAIN-LA-NEUVE. THE UNIVERSITY OF LAPILA WILL COOPERATE WITH ITALENERGIE FOR THE PREPARATION OF THE MIXTURES AND EMULSIONS AND WILL ALSO PERFORM A FEASIBILITY STUDY OF THE EMULSION UNIT.
