Objective
THESE COORDINATED PROGRAMMES HAVE THE INTEREST TO USE SEVERAL NEW TECHNICS IN THE FIELD OF FORESTRY, TREE PHYSIOLOGY, PULP PRODUCTION AND SACCHARIFICATION. APPLIED TO THE YOUNG WOOD OF POPLAR OBTAINED WITH A VERY HIGH YIELD PER HECTARE, THEY WILL PERMIT TO HAVE A FULL VALORIZATION OF THIS BIOMASS TO PRODUCE INDUSTRIAL CELLULOSES, POLYPHENOLS, PHENOLS AND SUGARS USEFUL FOR THE GROWING OF THE BIOINDUSTRIES.
IN ADDITION OF THAT, THE ECONOMIC SIDES WILL BE ALSO STUDIED TO DETERMINE THE OPTIMUM SIZE OF THE INDUSTRIAL UNITS OF UTILIZATION OF THE WOODS. IT HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED BY ONE OF US THAT UNITS OF 10 TO 100 TONS A DAY CAN BE SUPPLIED BY 100 TO 1000 HA OF COPPICES, WITH A THREE YEAR ROTATION CYCLE. THE HARVESTING EVERY THREE YEARS WOULD REPRESENT ONLY 0,5% OF A SURFACE HAVING A RADIUS OF 25 KM.
POPLAR SHORT ROTATIONS COPPICES SHOW IN OUR OPINION A GREAT AGRICULTURAL AND INDUSTRIAL INTEREST FOR THE COMING 20 YEARS.
