Objective
1) DEFINITION AND EVALUATION OF THE INFLUENCE OF THE MAJOR REACTION PARAMETERS ON THE TYPE OF END PRODUCT (FUEL OR CHEMICAL FEEDSTOCK);
2) ASSOCIATION OF BIOMASS HYDROGENATION WITH EXISTING COAL LIQUEFACTION TECHNOLOGY (INCREASING THE YIELD);
3) CONTRIBUTION OF AGRICULTURE AND FORESTRY TO ENERGY PRODUCTION AND CONSERVATION OF FOSSIL FUELS.
SOLID LIGNOCELLULOSIC BIOMASS IS CONVERTED TO LIQUID HYDROCARBONS BY CATALYTIC HYDROLIQUEFACTION. THE REACTOR SYSTEM USED CONSISTS BASICALLY OF THREE 1-1-CAPACITY AUTOCLAVES: REACTOR, HOT SEPARATOR AND COOLER. THE EXPERIMENTS ARE CARRIED OUT IN A BATCH MODE.
HOWEVER, DUE TO THE POSSIBILITY OF RECYCLING THE CARRIER OIL A CONTINUOUS PROCESS CAN BE SIMULATED. IN FORMER EXPERIMENTS A HIGH BOILING WOOD TAR FRACTION WAS USED AS CARRIER OIL. THEREFORE, FIRST EXPERIMENTS WITHIN THE CEC PROJECT CONCENTRATED ON THE EFFECT OF OTHER CARRIER OILS ON THE LIQUEFACTION RESULTS. BESIDE THE WOOD TAR, TWO OTHER TYPES WERE TESTED, NAMELY ANTHRACENE OIL (WHICH COMPRISES A HIGH BOILING COAL TAR FRACTION) AND 9, 10-DIHYDROANTHRACENE. IN COMPARISON TO WOOD TAR, ANTHRACENE DERIVED CARRIER OILS DECREASED THE YIELD OF LIGHT-AND MIDDLE-DISTILLATES OILS AND INCREASED THE AMOUNT OF SOLID RESIDUES.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
