Objective
THE PROGRAMME WILL PROVIDE :
ADVANCED MATHEMATICAL TOOLS FOR THE DESIGN OF JOINTS IN COMPLEX GEOMETRIES,
B) EXPERIMENTAL DATA ON A RANGE OF ADHESIVE PROPERTIES, INCLUDING TENSILE, CREEP AND FATIGUE, WHICH ARE IMPORTANT FOR THE INTEGRITY AND PERFORMANCE OF JOINTS,
C) EVALUATION DATA FROM THE TESTING OF REALISTIC ENVIRONMENTS.
AS A RESULT OF THE WORK, THE DESIGN AND USE OF JOINTS WILL BE PLACED ON A MORE ADVANCED SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL BASIS LEADING TO IMPROVEMENTS IN PRODUCT MANUFACTURE, THE INCREASED USE OF PLASTIC COMPOSITES IN PLACE OF METALS AND, CONSEQUENTLY, SAVINGS IN ENERGY.
A PROGRAMME IS UNDERWAY, SPONSORED BY 16 ORGANISATIONS THROUGHOUT EUROPE FROM THE AUTOMOTIVE, AEROSPACE AND MATERIALS SUPPLY INDUSTRIES, TO DEVELOP THE MORE EFFECTIVE USE OF ADHESIVES IN THE ENGINEERING DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE OF COMPOSITE TO METAL AND OTHER JOINTS IN MANUFACTURING PROCESSES. THE PROGRAMME COVERS FOUR PRINCIPAL AREAS OF DEVELOPMENT WORK (A) ADVANCED MATHEMATICAL MODELLING FOR THE PREDICTION OF STRENGTH AND STIFFNESS IN COMPLEX JOINTS (B) DETERMINATION OF MATERIALS PROPERTIES TO EXTEND THE DATA BASE ON ADHESIVES AND PROVIDE TENSILE, FATIGUE AND CREEP PROPERTIES (C) TESTING OR REALISTIC COMPONENT ASSEMBLIES (D) DURABILITY STUDIES ON JOINT DEGRADATION AND FAILURE MECHANISMS. THE PROGRAMME WAS INITIATED ON 1ST APRIL 1096 AND EXTENDS OVER A TWO YEAR PERIOD.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
