Objective
TO STUDY SOLID STATE SECONDARY CELLS, WORKING AT AMBIENT TEMPERATURE, TO REALISE A PROTOTYPE WITH A FEW AH CAPACITY AND TO TEST ITS CYCLABILITY EFFICIENCY IN ORDER TO ESTABLISH THE PRACTICAL FEASIBILITY OF SUCH DEVICE.
THIS PROJECT IS THE LOGICAL CONTINUATION OF THE PRECEDING CEC ENERGY CONSERVATION R AND D PROGRAMME (EEE-2-425-F CONTRACT). ITS AIM IS PRIMARILY THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE EXPERIMENTAL BATTERY CHARACTERISTICS AND THE SCALING UP OF THEIR SIZE.
The goal was clearly defined. Our work has centred on the development of a positive performance electrode based on titanium iodide 52 and vanadium 6013 with a solid electrolyte (glass composed of boron 253-lithium 25-lithium iodide) focussing on these 2 elements and their compatibility.
THE PROJECT WILL BE ACHIEVED THROUGH THE COOPERATION BETWEEN :
* LCS (FRANCE) :BASIC KNOW HOW ON GLASS ELECTROLYTE AND POSITIVE ELECTRODE; CELL CONSTRUCTION, TESTING
* SORAPEC (FRANCE) : COMMERCIAL BATTERY ENGINEERING - SUPPLY CELL CASE DESIGN AND PARTICIPATE TO BUILDING.
* ERL (DANMARK) : NEGATIVE ELECTRODE STUDIES, CONSTRUCTION AND TESTING OF CELLS WITH COMPOSITE ELECTROLYTE ANALYSE AND EVALUATION.
THE COOPERATION WITH ERL WILL ENSURE CLOSE CONTRACT TO THE ANGLO-DANISH SOLID STATE LI-BATTERY PROGRAMME AND GIVE THE POSSIBILITY FOR CLOSE SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION EXCHANGE.
THE PROGRAMME IS DIVIDED INTO TWO MAIN PARTS :
- CONSTRUCTION AND TEST OF CELLS WITH THE PRESENT TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPED BY THE FRENCH AND ANGLO-DANISH GROUPS,
- IMPROVEMENT OF EACH PART OF THE BATTERY WITH SPECIAL CONSIDERATION OF THE GLASS AND COMPOSITE ELECTROLYTE CHARACTERISTICS AND FINALLY, TRANSFER OF THOSE RESULTS TO THE CELL CONSTRUCTION.
