Objective
OBJECTIVE:THE PRINCIPAL OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROJECT IS TO DEVELOP EXPERT SYSTEMS LINKED TO DATA BASES TO ASSIST USERS IN THE SPECIFICATION AND SELECTION OF HEAT RECOVERY EQUIPMENT. MORE SPECIFICALLY, THE SYSTEMS WILL RELATE TO HEAT PUMPS AND HEAT PUMPS AND HEAT EXCHANGERS, ITEMS OF ENERGY CONSERVATION EQUIPMENT WHICH OFFER SIGNIFICANT ENERGY SAVING POTENTIAL.
AN OBJECTIVE OF THE WORK IS TO ENSURE THAT CLOSE COLLABORATION BETWEEN THE TWO MAIN CONTRACTORS, IRD (UK) AND COMPRIMO (NL) LEADS TO COMMON SYSTEM SOFTWARE (SHELL) AND ASSISTANCE IN CONSTRUCTION OF THE DATA BASES DESCRIBING THE EQUIPMENT.
DESCRIPTION
THE PROGRAMME IS CONCERNED WITH THE DEVELOPMENT OF EXPERT SYSTEMS (COMPUTER-BASED PROBLEM SOLVING TECHNIQUES INTO WHICH ARE BUILT 'RULE BASES' WHICH IMITATE THE REASONING OF A HUMAN EXPERT).
THESE EXPERT SYSTEMS ARE DIRECTED AT THE SPECIFICATION AND SELECTION OF HEAT RECOVERY EQUIPMENT - IN THIS CASE HEAT EXCHANGERS AND HEAT PUMPS. THERE WILL BE CLOSE CO-ORDINATION BETWEEN THE TWO MAIN CONTRACTORS IN THE UK AND THE NETHERLANDS. THIS WILL ENSURE THAT THE TASKS IN THE WORK PROGRAMME ARE CARRIED OUT EFFICIENTLY AND WITHOUT DUPLICATION. IN PARTICULAR, IT IS IMPORTANT THAT A COMMON EXPERT SYSTEM 'SHELL' IS SELECTED EARLY ON IN THE STUDY.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
