Objective
II - SYNTHESIS OF AN INORGANIC-ORGANIC POLYMER ELECTROLYTE, SOLID PROTONIC CONDUCTOR WITH FIXED ANION, FOR A HIGH CHEMICAL AND PHYSICAL STRENGTH MEMBRANE.
III - PROGRAMME
THIS WORK PROGRAMME RUNS ON 12 MONTHS AND IS THE CONTINUATION AND THE END OF THE MAIN PROGRAMME (CONTRACT EN3E-0070-F).
INTRODUCTION :
IN THE LAST REPORT, WE PROPOSED A NEW ORGANIC-INORGANIC ELECTROLYTE POLYMER, OF ORMOLYTE'S TYPE, OBTAINED BY SOL-GEL PROCESS AND EXHIBITING A GOOD THERMAL STABILITY.
HYDROLYSIS OF TRIMETHOXYBENZYLSILANE IN ACIDIC MEDIUM LEADS AFTER SULFONATION, TO THE POLYBENZYLSULFONIC ACID SILOXANE.
THE THERMAL STABILITY MEASURED UNDER DRIED CONDITIONS IS GOOD ONTO 250 CELSIUS DEGREES, THE PROTONIC CONDUCTIVITY AT AMBIENT TEMPERATURE (10E-3 S/CM) IS THAT OF A FAST PROTONIC CONDUCTOR.
WATER INSOLUBILITY WAS OBTAINED BY ADDING 10 % OF TETRAMETOXYSILANE(TEOS) TO THE STARTING MATERIALS. THE PLASTICITY OF THE ACIDIC ORMOLYTE DUE TO THE ORGANIC PART IS LOST, MAKING DIFFICULT SHAPING INTO FILMS. TO RECOVER PLASTICITY PROPERTIES, ANOTHER MODIFIED ALKOXIDES SHOULD BE ADDED DURING CONDENSATION STEPS, MAKING LOWER THE NUMBER OF SULFONIC GROUPS.
THIS WORK PROGRAMME WILL BE DIVIDED INTO TWO PARTS: SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION, SHAPING AND TEST IN FUEL CELLS.
