Objective
THE OBJECTIVE IS TO REDUCE NOX EMISSIONS BY ABOUT 40% (IF POSSIBLE) AS RELATED TO A STANDARD TANGENTIAL FIRING SYSTEM.
OF COURSE, THE TARGET WILL BE TO GET A MAXIMUM REDUCTION FOR EACH QUALITY OF COAL WHILE MAINTAINING COMBUSTION PERFORMANCE AT INDUSTRIAL LEVEL.
LIMITS MAY APPEAR WITH CERTAIN COALS WHICH ARE DIFFICULT TO BURN AND DO NOT PERMIT OPTIMIZING COMBUSTION CONDITIONS TO REDUCE NOX EMISSIONS.
THE RESULTS WILL BE PRESENTED WITH THEIR COMPLETE INTERPRETATION SO AS TO ENABLE THE FIRING SYSTEM DESIGNER TO EASILY USE THE DATA.
THE PURPOSE IS TO DEVELOP A "LOW NOX" BURNER FOR TANGENTIALLY FIRED FURNACES, ABLE TO BURN IN GOOD CONDITIONS THE WIDEST POSSIBLE RANGE OF COALS.
TANGENTIAL FIRING IS ALREADY KNOWN FOR ITS LOW NOX PRODUCTION, COMPARED WITH FRONT FIRING. HOWEVER, THE PRESENT BURNERS DO NOT ALLOW TO COMPLY WITH THE INCREASINGLY STRINGENT REGULATIONS WHICH ARE BEING CONTEMPLATED FOR THE FUTURE. NEW BURNERS WHICH NOTABLY REDUCE NOX PRODUCTION WILL ALLOW TO COMPLY WITH SUCH REGULATIONS, WHILE AVOIDING EXPENSIVE FLUE GAS CATALYTIC TREATMENT (OR MINIMIZING ITS COST, SINCE THIS COST STRONGLY DEPENDS ON THE NOX CONTENTS OF THE FLUE GAS TO BE PURIFIED).

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
