Objective
THE AIM OF THE PROPOSED RESEARCH WORK IS TO VALIDATE FURTHER AN EXISTING PREDICTION PROCEDURE FOR COAL-FIRED CYLINDRICAL COMBUSTORS DEVELOPED AT IMPERIAL COLLEGE USING DATA COLLECTED PRIMARILY BY CERCHAR AND IMPERIAL COLLEGE. THE INNOVATORY CONTENT OF THE PROJECT WILL BE THE IMPROVEMENT ON AND GENERALIZING OF THE EXTENSIVE PHYSICAL MODELLING CONTAINED BY THE CODE TO OBTAIN ENHANCED CONFORMITY WITH NEWLY GENERATED DATA FOR BURNER GEOMETRIES, COALS AND FLOW CONDITIONS NOT PREVIOUSLY STUDIED.
The results of this project are new combustion data for pulverised coal fired combustors which have been used to validate and improve a mathematical model for the performance prediction of these combustors.
A prototype was made available on 13/04/90
THE IMPROVED PHYSICAL MODELLING WILL BE DEPLOYED IN PREDICTIVE CODES, INCLUDING THREE-DIMENSIONAL ONES, ALLOWING ENGINEERS TO DETERMINE IMPROVED COAL COMBUSTOR DESIGNS IN A SIGNIFICANTLY LESS EMPIRICAL MANNER.
