Objective
TO INVESTIGATE ABNORMAL WEAR OBSERVED ON THE UPPER BUSHES OF LINESHAFT PUMPS IN GEOTHERMAL WELLS, BELIEVED TO BE DUE TO CORROSION, AND TO TEST POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS.
THE PROGRAMME, TO BE CARRIED OUT IN COLLABORATION WITH ICELANDIC SPECIALISTS, WILL CONSIST FIRST OF DIAGNOSIS OF THE PROBLEM, WITH COMPARISON OF LABORATORY AND FIELD TESTS, TESTING OF DIFFERENT BUSHES AND PROTECTIVE MATERIALS AND SIMULATED OPERATION IN GEOTHERMAL BRINE IN THE LABORATORY. DEPENDING ON THE FINDINGS, THE PROJECT WILL THEN DESIGN AND BUILD UP TO THREE PROTOTYPES INCORPORATING MODIFICATIONS DESIGNED TO OVERCOME THE PROBLEM. THESE WILL BE OPERATED IN THE FIELD OVER TWO HEATING SEASONS AND THE PERFORMANCE OF THE NEW COMPONENTS WILL BE EVALUATED.
