Objective
THE AIM OF THE PROPOSED R&D WORK IS TO ESTIMATE THE POTENTIAL SIZE OF THE MAJOR NATIONAL MARKET SEGMENTS FOR NATURAL GAS IN THE EEC UP TO THE YEAR 2010 UNDER VARIOUS CONDITIONS REGARDING ENERGY PRICES FORMATION, ECONOMIC GROWTH PATTERNS AND TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENTS.
THE INNOVATIVE ASPECTS OF THE WORK CONCERN THE APPLICATION OF AN INTEGRAL ANALYTICAL FRAMEWORK IN AN INTERNATIONAL CONTEXT. FOR EXAMPLE ENERGY DEMAND WILL BE RELATED TO THE OVERALL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN THE EEC AND THE INTERNATIONAL AND INTRA-EEC COMPETITION BETWEEN INDUSTRIES.
IN THE PAST DECADE MUCH R&D WORK HAS FOCUSSED ON THE METHODOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF ENERGY SYSTEM MODELLING. THE NUMBER OF ACTUAL APPLICATIONS FOR SPECIFIC PROBLEM AREAS IS VERY LIMITED. THE PRESENT STUDY AIMS TO FILL THIS GAP BY USING THE WELL DEVELOPED MODELLING APPROACH (EEC-EFOM-MODEL) TO A PROBLEM AREA OF CURRENT INTEREST : LONG TERM NATURAL GAS MARKETS IN THE EEC.
THIS DEMONSTRATION WILL SHOW HOW FAR A SCIENTIFICALLY BASED METHODOLOGY CAN CONTRIBUTE TO THE UNDERSTANDING OF POSSIBLE DEVELOPMENTS OF THE VERY CONTESTED GAS MARKET, WHERE THE SPAN OF SPECULATIONS COVERS THE SUPPLY SECURITY OR THE RISK OF SUDDEN INTERRUPTION (MAINLY FOCUSSING ON URSS GAS) ON ONE SIDE AND THE FEAR OF NEW PRICE ESCALATIONS ON THE OTHER SIDE.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
