ELABORATION OF HERMES FOR THE NETHERLANDS.

Objective

THE HERMES MODEL FOR THE NETHERLANDS WILL GIVE THE COMMISSION FULL INFORMATION ON THE ECONOMY - ENERGY INTERFACE IN A WAY THAT IS HARMONIZED WITH THE OTHER EUROPEAN ECONOMIES FOR WHICH THE HERMES MODEL ALREADY EXISTS. HERMES-NL WILL THEN BE LINKED VIA MSLINK WITH THE OTHER HERMES MODELS, ALLOWING THE COMMISSION TO CARRY OUT EXTENSIVE STUDIES ON ENERGY AND ECONOMY IN THE CONTEXT OF THE INTERNAL MARKET. ONLY WITH THIS MODEL WILL IT BE POSSIBLE TO CARRY OUT SECTORAL AND INTERNATIONAL STUDIES.
Separate export equations for the 3 manufacturing sectors have been fitted and the role of capacity considerations investigated by including the utilisation rate as a regressor variable and by allowing for a regime for which utilisation exceeds a certain threshold value. It is found that the sector equations perform better than a single equation. It is also found that the use of the utilisation rate as an additional regressor yields indifferent results. Only 1 out of 3 estimates is significantly different from zero with the correct sign.
DATA COLLECTION, IMPLEMENTATION AND PROVISIONAL ESTIMATION WITH RESPECT TO THE FOLLOWING BLOCKS:

1.- NATIONAL ACCOUNTS AND VARIOUS NATIONAL AGGREGATES
2.- CONSUMPTION
3.- MARKET AND NON-MARKET BRANCHES
4.- INTERNATIONAL ACCOUNTS
5.- SIMULATIONS WITH THE COMPLETE MODEL AND FINAL ESTIMATIONS
6.- LINKAGE EXPERIMENTS WITH MSLINK

ALL THIS WORK WILL BE DONE WITH THE TROLL SOFTWARE
