Objective
A EUROPEAN CONCERTED RESEARCH ACTION TO:
-INCREASE CONFIDENCE IN PASSIVE SOLAR SIMULATION MODELS AND DESIGN METHODS THROUGH FURTHER DEVELOPMENT AND VALIDATION.
-DEVELOP RELIABLE AND COST-EFFECTIVE TEST PROCEDURES FOR PASSIVE SOLAR COMPONENTS,ENABLING THEIR COMPARISION.
ONE OF THE OBJECTIVES OF THE PASSYS PROJECT IS THE DEVELOPMENT OF SUITABLE TESTING METHODS FOR THE EVALUATION OF PASSIVE SOLAR COMPONENTS. THE TEST CELL APPROACH ALLOWS A CHARACTERIZATION OF PASSIVE COMPONENTS ON A REALISTIC ENVIRONMENT, BUT REQUIRES A DATA INTERPRETATION IN ORDER TO ISOLATE THE SOUTH-WALL COMPONENT PERFORMANCE FROM THE INFLUENCE OF THE ENVORONMENT (SOLAR RADIATION, AIR TEMPERATURE) AND OF THE REMAINDER OF THE CELL (HEAT LOSSES, INTERNAL MASSES,...). MOREOVER, THE PASSIVE COMPONENT PARAMETERS, IDENTIFIED BY MEANS OF THIS METHOD, MAY BE INTRODUCED AS INPUT PARAMETERS IN DESIGN TOOLS FOR ARCHITECTS AND BUILDING ENGINEERS, IN ORDER TO PREDICT THE COMPONENT BEHAVIOUR IN REAL HOUSES.
A SECOND AREA OF ACTIVITY OF THE PASSYS PROJECT IS THE DEVELOPMENT OF DESIGN TOOLS, AND INCLUDES THE VALIDATION OF THE ESP SIMULATION CODE AND THE SELECTION OF SIMPLIFIED DESIGN TOOLS. AT THIS TIME THE EXPERIMENTAL ACTIVITY IS STILL IN THE SET-UP PHASE, WHILE THEORETICAL ACTIVITY HAS BEEN DEVELOPED BY SUB-GROUPS. THE METHODOLOGY SUBGROUP, LEAD BY CONPHOEBUS AND TNO, HAS IDENTIFIED TWO MAIN CONCEPTUAL LINES, ONE DESIGNED AS "ABSOLUTE METHODS" AND ANOTHER AS "MODEL IDENTIFICATION TECHNIQUES". BOTH ARE IN PHASE OF DEVELOPMENT, BUT A POSSIBLE COMMON FORMAT FOR EXPERIMENTAL DATA AND A COMPARABLE TYPE OF FINAL RESULTS (SOUTH WALL CHARACTERIZED BY PHYSICAL PARAMETERS OR BY A STATE FUNCTION) HAVE BEEN AGREED.
THE MODELLING SUBGROUP IS NOW AFFORDING A PHASE OF EVALUATION OF THE MAIN ESP ALGORITHMS AND OF TRAINING ON THE USE OF THE CODE.
