MODELLING AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE CONTROL SUB-SYSTEM FOR A STAND-ALONE WIND ENERGY CONVERSION SYSTEM WITHIN SELF-EXITED ASYNCRONOUS GENERATORS

Objective

THE GOAL OF THIS PROPOSED R&D PROJECT IS THE BASIC RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT AND TESTING OF A STAND-ALONE WIND ENERGY CONVERSION SYSTEM WITH A SELF EXCITED ASYNCHRONOUS GENERATOR.

A LOAD MANAGEMENT SYSTEM WILL SET LOAD PRIORITIES. VOLTAGE AND FREQUENCY SUPPLIED TO THE LOADS WILL FLUCTUATE ONLY WITHIN PREESTABLISHED MARGINS. A THERMAL STORAGE WILL ABSORB ALL EXCESS ENERGY GENERATED AND NOT ABSORBED BY THE LOADS AND THE ELECTRICAL STORAGE. THUS THE WIND GENERATED ELECTRICITY WILL BE FULLY USED.

A GLOBAL CONTROL SYSTEM WILL CONTROL THE AEROGENERATOR, CAPACITORS BENCH AND LOAD MANAGEMENT CONTROL SUBSYSTEMS. THIS UNIT WILL RECEIVE ALL VARIABLE PARAMETERS AND EMERGENCY SIGNALS AND WILL ISSUE THE PROPER ORDERS TO THE DIFFERENT CONTROL SUBSYSTEMS. ONE OF THE MAIN GOALS OF THE PROPOSED WORK IS THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE MATHEMATICAL MODEL WHICH WILL ALLOW THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE GLOBAL CONTROL SYSTEM.

THE PROJECT WILL ALSO INCLUDE ASSEMBLING AND TESTING OF A STAND-ALONE WIND ENERGY CONVERSION SYSTEM INCORPORATING THE CONTROL SYSTEM DEVELOPED, SO THAT PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS WILL BE CARRIED OUT TO EXPERIMENTALLY VALIDATE THE WORK DEVELOPED.

THE TASKS THAT HAVE BEEN COMPLETED ARE :

A) MODELIZATION OF COMBINED SYSTEM : ASYNCHRONOUS MACHINE-CAPACITORS.

B) SIMULATION PROGRAMME OF INDUCTION MACHINE SELF-EXCITING BY MEANS CAPACITORS.

C) THE FIRST PHASE CONSISTING IN AN EXPERIMENTAL VERIFICATION THAT THESE MODELIZATION AND SIMULATION ARE CORRECT, AND THE CHARACTERISATION OF MOST IMPORTANTS PARAMETERS THAT CONFORM THE SELF-EXCITING PHENOMENA IN ORDER TO DEFINE THE NECESSARY CONTROL SYSTEM.

THIS FIRST PHASE HAS BEEN MADE WITH A VERY SMALL MACHINES < 1 KW AND 5 KW.

WE HAVE INSTALLED TEST BANKS FOR A 24 MACHINES (2ND. PHASE) IN ORDER TO COMPARE THE RESULTS, AND TO SIMULATE THE RUNNING AS MUST BE AT THE FIELD TEST.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
