AERODYNAMIC DESIGN AND TESTING OF BLADE PROFILES FOR VERTICAL AXIS WIND TURBINES

Objective

THE OBJECTIVES OF THE PROPOSED WORK ARE :

1) THE CREATION OF A NUMERICAL MODEL FOR THE CALCULATION OF BLADE PROFILE CHARACTERISTICS FOR VERTICAL AXIS WIND TURBINES (VAWT) WHICH WILL INCLUDE UNSTEADY AND ROTATIONAL EFFECTS.

2) THE DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION AND TESTING OF THE BLADE PADDLES WITH OPTIMIZED CHARACTERISTICS

3) THE SELECTION OF THE MOST SUITABLE (FOR VAWT) BLADE PROFILES IN RELATION TO DIFFERENT POSSIBLE WT.

ACTUALLY, A SIMPLE TWO-DIMENSIONAL COMPUTATION METHOD, BASED ON THE MODEL OF INVISCID FLUID WITH A FREE VORTICES WAKE CREATION, IS PROPOSED. THIS IS AN IMPROVEMENT OF THE SO-CALLED STRICKLAND VORTEX METHOD, INCLUDING THE EFFECTS OF ROTATION.
