Fuel cells application for mobile equipment (FAME)

Objective

To increase the talking time at reasonable cost is crucial in the Mobile Phone low power range. Today the most advanced Battery technologies are offering up to 5 hours in continuous working time. Fuel Cell that is being subject of research it is now appearing as a very promising technology for this Mobile Phones huge quantity application. Fuel cell system based on pure methanol (DMFC) can offer theoretically an impressive performance in terms of autonomy time. With only 2.1 ml of methanol a Mobile phone would work up to 2 hours.
Accordingly, a small tank of 50 ml (equivalent size of a Mobile phone battery) of pure methanol would provide about 48 hours of conversation. The FAME project is focused to achieve a more practical objective of 15 hours talking time (equivalent to 800 Wh/l) considering the final Fuel Cell efficiency.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
