Electric starting torque with short term supercapacitor energy storage for boosting small lightweight gasoline engine powertrains; target action k - storage of energy (EST)

Objective

Electric energy storage by super capacitors and a permanent magnet machine shall improve the drive away and accelerate behaviour of passenger cars with small-downsized gasoline engines. Downsized supercharged gasoline engines are able to improve the fuel consumption up to 30% compared to base engine with about 40% higher displacement and equal power output. Their drawback is the very low torque at low engine speeds resulting in an unacceptable drive away and acceleration behaviour. Electric power train boosting for less than 3s improves the drive away and acceleration significantly. A super capacitor unit with an electrical torque boost device will be designed and installed into a vehicle equipped with a downsized turbocharged gasoline engine. The validation car with torque control management will be tested in the NEDC .

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
