Objective
To stimulate and coordinate Clivar-related research in Europe.
Clivar is a fifteen year scientific research programme proposed as part of the World Climate Research
Programme (WCRP) and focusing on the "Study of Climate Variability and Predictability". Euro-Clivar will
help coordinate the European contribution to Clivar.
A Euroclivar-committee will be established, which will review ongoing Clivar related activities in Europe.
Through this reviewing process, and through a number of workshops, each focusing on a specific area within
Clivar, Euro-Clivar will formulate specific European goals and science plans. In addition Euro-Clivar will
identify needs for coordination and information exchange within Europe.
The aim is to stimulate Clivar-related research in Europe by facilitating the exchange of information between
Clivar-related programme components, and by increasing the awareness of Clivar and the Clivar objectives
among European scientists.
It is expected that this will contribute to an increased coherence and effectiveness of climate research in Europe.
