Coordination of regional and national material flow accounting for environmental sustainability

Objective

To exchange information and coordinate current and future policy relevant work on regional and national material and substance flow accounting (MSFA) in the EU and consider other relevant material worldwide.

OBJECTIVES:
To exchange information and coordinate current and future policy relevant work on regional and national material and substance flow accounting (MSFA) in the EU and consider other relevant material worldwide.

DESCRIPTION:
The Concerted Action is constructed in order to foster a process of decision making appropriate to the achievement of sustainability.
The main fields of current and future development of MSFA that support an environmentally sustainable development are presented and discussed.
The concertation activity seeks to:
i) provide an inventory of the institutions working on regional or national material and substance flow accounting;
ii) initiate, foster, and structure the information exchange between participating institutions to aid coordination;
iii) support information exchange between the scientists developing Material Flow Accounting (MFA) and the user community;
iv) coordinate current and future work on MFA including issues such as scope, method and the question of environmental targets;
v) provide the basis for the development of a coherent framework of MFA methods;
vi) define the future needs for the research and development agenda for policy relevant MFA tools.
There will be an extensive information exchange through written documents (including e-mail), a series of workshops dealing with main topics of policy support by MSFA, and a final conference.
