Objective
Europe's Soil has over the past hundred years been contaminated by various industrial activities. This contaminated soil has, through polluted drinking water and vapours become a potential health threat to the inhabitants. Today the monitoring of these potential risk is done by taking samples through borings. This investigation method, based on taking a limited (for economical reasons) amount of samples, does often not deliver an adequate picture of the contamination. MAP Environmental Research has developed a totally new technology for ground investigation by means of Ground Penetrating Radar. This method is very systematic, fast and nondestructivr. In Comparision with the traditional method of sampling through borings it delivers more information in less time for less costs. But this method has only been tested in specific circumstances; for European wide deployment it is necessary to develope & test the technology further on the various soils of Europe. For this cause MAP intents to set up a consortium of SMB's and Scientific Institutes with a good knowledge of geofysics and environment to execute this project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
