The global carbon cycle and its perturbation by man and climate

Objective

The objectives of the project are to provide an inventory of the distribution of the sources and sinks of carbon dioxide on a regional basis, an assessment of the relative storage capacities of the different carbon pools, and of the dynamics of the global carbon cycle as it reacts to climate changes.

The entire project is subdivided into six sub-projects, each focusing on a different aspect of the global carbon cycle:
A. Observations of the concentration of atmospheric CO2 and CH4 and their isotope ratios.
B. Air-sea exchange and dynamics of the surface ocean carbon system.
C. Assessment of internal oceanic processes.
D. Exchanges of carbon with the terrestrial biosphere.
E. Information based on variations of the carbon cycle in the past.
F. Global scale three-dimensional modelling of the contemporary carbon cycle.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
