Objective
TO CHECK IF VIBRATIONS AND INFRA-SOUNDS SUPERIMPOSED TO NOISE HAVE MAJOR EFFECTS ON HUMAN BEINGS, THAN WHEN APPLIED SEPARATELY.
TWO RESEARCH INSTITUTES:
A) IRISH FOUNDATION FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT, DUBLIN (IRL)
B) INSTITUT NATIONAL DE RECHERCHE ET SECURITE, NANCY (F),
ARE CARRYING OUT COMPLEMENTARY EXPERIMENTS ON VOLUNTEERS, EXPOSED IN LABORATORY TO NOISE ALONE, VIBRATIONS AND/OR INFRA-SOUNDS SEPARATELY AND IN COMBINATION OF ALL OF THEM.
IN DUBLIN, 40 SUBJECTS WILL BE SUBMITTED, FOR 15 MINUTES, TO A VARIETY OF INTENSITIES OF EACH STIMULUS AND COMBINATION OF STIMULI. DURING EACH EXPOSURE, PHYSIOLOGICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL MEASURES ARE RECORDED:
- ELECTROENCEPHALOGRAMMES AND ELECTROCARDIOGRAMMES,
- RESPIRATION RATE,
- BLOOD PRESSURE,
- GALVANIC SKIN RESISTANCE,
- SIMPLE TEST REACTION TIME,
- REACTION TIME AND CHOICE BETWEEN RESPONSES,
- CORTICAL AROUSAL,
- DIGIT SYMBOLS SUBSTITUTION.
THE COMPARISON BETWEEN RESULTS OF DIFFERENT SITUATIONS WILL SHOW IF THE EFFECTS ARE ADDITIVE OR NOT.
