IMMUNE RESPONSE IN MICE WITH PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO CADMIUM

Objective

TO ESTABLISH THE ADVERSE EFFECTS ON THE IMMUNE SYSTEM OF PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO CADMIUM, AT LEVELS COMMONLY PREVAILING IN THE HUMAN ENVIRONMENT.

THE IMMUNE RESPONSE IN CADMIUM TREATED MICE ARE STUDIED IN VIVO AND IN VITRO. IN PARTICULAR, CELL-MEDIATED IMMUNITY, HUMORAL IMMUNITY AND THE NON-SPECIFIC IMMUNE RESPONSE ARE DETERMINED.

THE SPECIFIC IMMUNITY OF CADMIUM EXPOSED MICE ARE STUDIED IN VIVO. CELL-MEDIATED IMMUNITY IS ALSO STUDIED, IN PARTICULAR THE IMMUNE RESPONSE TO LISTERIA MONOCYTOGENES.

THE NON SPECIFIC IMMUNITY IS TESTED USING THE FOLLOWING TECHNIQUES: CARBON BLACK CLEARANCE, BACTERIAL CLEARANCE, BACTERIAL ACTIVITY OF MACROPHAGES AND MACROPHAGE CYTOTOXICITY TO TUMOR CELLS.
