THE INFLUENCE OF HYDROCARBONS ON THE FORMATION OF ATMOSPHERIC ACIDITY.

Objective

TO CORRELATE THE DATA ON THE DISTRIBUTION OF HYDROCARBONS IN SOME TYPES OF AIR MASSESS TO THE AMOUNTS OF ACIDITY WHICH ARE OBSERVED IN THESE AIR MASSES.

THE RESEARCH PROJECT IS IMPLEMENTED IN COLLABORATION WITH CERL ( PROP. 07.429).

A PROGRAMME OF AIRCRAFT FLIGHTS IS FORESEEN DURING WHICH AIR COMPOSITION MEASUREMENTS IS MADE DOWNWIND FROM A SPECIFIC POINT AND AREA SOURCES OF THE U.K.

THE FOLLOWING HYDROCARBONS ARE DETERMINED USING A GAS CHROMATOGRAPH EQUIPPED WITH A FLAME IONISATION DETECTOR : C2 H6, C2 H4, C2H2, C3H6, I C4 H10, NC4 H10, IC5H12, N C5H12, N C6H14, BENZENE AND TOLUENE.

MEASUREMENTS ARE MADE OF VARIOUS HALOCARBON SPECIES USING A GAS CHROMATOGRAPH EQUIPEPED WITH AN ELECTRON CAPTURE DETECTOR.

DATA ARE COLLECTED ON SPECIFIC SITUATIONS SUCH AS THE DEVELOPMENT OF PLUMES OVER LAND AND PLUMES FROM URBAN AND STATIONARY SOURCES OVER THE SEA.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
