Objective
TO STUDY THE SELFPURIFICATION OF THE OLIVE OIL WASTES FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN APPLICABLE METHOD FOR A FURTHER REDUCTION OF THEIR ORGANIC LOAD.
THIS PROJECT IS A FOLLOW-UP OF THE RESEARCH DONE ON "ANAEROBIC TREATMENT OF OLIVE PROCESSING WASTES" UNDER CONTRACT RUW/056/D. IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT THE ANAEROBIC TREATMENT DOES NOT RESULT IN THE ORGANIC LOAD REDUCTION OF THE WASTES; THE REMAINING ORGANIC LOAD (GREATER THAN 30 %) IS STILL QUITE HEAVY (7,000 MG COD/1, 2,500 MG BOD/1).
FOLLOWING PRELIMINARY EXPERIMENTS USING LABOUR AEROBIC FIXED BED REACTORS, IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT THE REMAINING ORGANIC LOAD COULD BE FURTHER ELIMINATED AEROBICALLY AT ABOUT 80 %.
THE AIMS OF THE PROPOSED RESEARCH IS TO PROCEED TO THE OPTIMUM REEVALUATION OF THE RESULTS TAKEN FROM THE LABOUR-AEROBIC FIXED BED REACTOR. THIS NEEDS TO CONSIDER THE NECESSARY AND TIME COMSUMING ADAPTATION OF THE BIO-COMMUNITY, ON A TECHNOLOGICAL BASIS, IN ITS NEW FUNCTION. A SELF PURIFICATION WHEN THE MICROORGANISMS ARE LOCALLY FIXED WILL BE DESIGNED, THE EFFLUENTS FLOW BEING ACHIEVED TECHNOLOGICALLY BY A ROTATING DISC REACTOR WITH LONGTUDINAL FLOW.
