PARAMETRIZATION OF LAND SURFACE FLAXES FOR CLIMATE MODELLING

Objective

TO MEASURE PARAMETERS OF LAND-SURFACE FOR CLIMATE MODELLING.

IN CENTRAL GREECE A SITE WILL BE SELECTED HAVING THE GEOLOGICAL, GEOMORPHOLOGICAL, ECOLOGICAL AND LAND-USE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE TYPICAL GREEK MEDITERRANEAN LANDSCAPE.
THE OVERALL SURFACE OF THE SITE WILL BE 10X10 KM2.
IN THE SITE PRELIMINARY MEASUREMENTS WILL TAKE PLACE. THE SITUATION WILL BE COMPARED WITH THE CRAU EXPERIMENT SITE IN FRANCE.

MEASUREMENTS OF MICROCLIMATE AND VEGETATION PARAMETERS WILL TAKE PLACE AT MONTHLY INTERVALS FOR A WEEK PERIOD:
1. MICROCLIMATOLOGICAL CHARACTERITICS

1.1 USING A MAST
1.1.1 AIR TEMPERATURE PROFILE
1.1.2 WIND SPEED PROFILE
1.1.3 MOISTURE GRADIENT
1.2 ON THE GROUND
1.2.1 SOLAR INCOMING RADIATION
1.2.2 SOLAR REFLECTED RADIATION
1.2.3 ATMOSPHERIC INCOMING AND REFLECTED RADIATION

2. VEGETATION CHARACTERISTICS

2.1 LEAF AREA INDEX
2.2 BIOMASS
2.3 STOMATAL RESISTANCE
2.4 VEGETATION PRODUCTIVITY

COMPARISON OF TEST SITE CHARACTERISTICS (VEGETATION INDEX, TEXTURE) WITH THE OTHER EUROPEAN TEST SITES USING IMAGES OF LANDSAT TM, NOAA/AVHRR AND METEOSAT WILL BE CARRIED OUT.
