COHERENCE ON CLIMATIC CHANGE IN EUROPE AND CLIMATIC FLUCTUATIONS OF DROUGHT AND HUMIDITY OVER THE LAST MILLENIUM

Objective

ONE PART OF THE WORK WILL BE THE CONSTRUCTION OF TIME SERIES MODELS BY MAKING USE OF HOMOGENEOUS AIR TEMPERATURE DATA SAMPLES FOR EUROPEAN STATIONS WITH THE LONGEST AVAILABLE RECORDS. TESTS FOR STATISTICAL SIGNIFICANCE WILL BE PERFORMED, AND THE RESULTS WILL BE COMPARED WITH MODEL PREDICTIONS OF THE EXPECTED GREENHOUSE EFFECT, DURING THE PERIOD OF STUDY, FOR KNOWN CO2 AND OTHER TRACE GASES INCREASING SCENARIOS.

ANOTHER PART OF THE WORK WILL CONSIST ON STUDYING EXTREMES OF TEMPERATURE AND RELATED CLIMATIC VARIABLES. THAT SHALL BE EXTENDED BACK TO THE YEAR 1000 AD, BY USING HISTORICAL SOURCES. THE SIMULATION OF PREVAILING SYNOPTIC CONDITIONS IN EUROPE AT THESE EARLY TIMES WILL BE ATTEMPTED.

MODERN STATISTICAL TECHNIQUES WILL BE USED TO EVALUATE EXISTING CLIMATIC TELECONNECTIONS BETWEEN THE GREEK STATION OF THE PATRIARCHAL INSTITUTE AND THE RECORDS IN OTHER EUROPEAN STATIONS, DURING THE PERIOD FROM THE 1850'S THROUGH TO THE 1980'S.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
