Objective
TO DEVELOP A THREE DIMENSIONAL NUMERICAL MODEL WHICH DESCRIBES THE PHYSICAL PROCESSES OF TORCH FIRES IN A FAIRLY ACCURATE WAY
THE SPECIFIC TASK OF THE U P MADRID WITHIN THE PROJECT WILL BE TO DEVELOP NUMERICAL MODELS WHICH CAN BE USED TO STUDY THE FUNDAMENTAL ASPECTS OF TORCH FIRES.
DURING THE FIRST STAGE OF THE PROJECT THREE DIMENSIONAL NUMERICAL MODELS THAT DESCRIBE TORCH FIRES WILL BE SELECTED, MODIFIED OR EVENTUALLY DEVELOPED. DEVELOPMENTS WILL BE CARRIED OUT IN COOPERATION WITH BERTIN, WHO WILL GIVE GENERAL ADVICE, AND WITH ARS, WHO WILL USE THE RESULTS TO IMPLEMENT THEM INTO A NUMERICAL METHOD THAT CAN BE USED TO CARRY OUT HAZARD ANALYSIS OF TORCH FIRES IN PRACTICAL SITUATIONS. ASSISTANCE WILL BE GIVEN TO THE SELECTION OF THE SITUATIONS TO BE STUDIED WITHIN THE PROJECT, AND CALCULATIONS WITH THE NUMERICAL MODEL FOR IDEALIZED SITUATIONS WITHOUT OBSTACLES WILL BE PERFORMED. AT THE END OF THE FIRST STAGE DATA OBTAINED FROM CALCULATIONS WILL BE EVALUATED AGAINST FIELD DATA AND DATA FROM WIND-TUNNEL TESTS.
DURING THE SECOND STAGE OF THE PROJECT, DEPENDING ON THE RESULTS FROM THE FIRST STAGE, THE NUMERICAL MODEL WILL BE ADJUSTED. AFTERWARDS MORE COMPLEX SITUATIONS WITH SIMPLE OBSTACLES WILL BE STUDIED.
A FINAL REPORT ON THE ACTIVITIES OF THE U P WILL BE PRODUCED. FURTHER, THE U P WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE TEXT OF AN EXECUTIVE SUMMARY ON THE TOTAL JOINT PROJECT, BASED ON THE REPORTS OF THE OTHER PARTNERS. ALSO RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE NUMERICAL MODELLING OF FIRES WILL BE GENERATED.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
