BENCHMARK EXERCISE ON MAJOR HAZARDS ANALYSIS

Objective

IT MAY BE EXPECTED THAT A STATE OF THE ART PROCEDURAL FRAMEWORK FOR RISK ANALYSES FOR PROCESS PLANTS MAY EMANATE FROM THE PROJECT.

THE ANALYSIS IS COMPOSED OF THE FOLLOWING STEPS :
SYSTEMS ANALYSIS
-PLANT FAMILIARIZATION
-IDENTIFICATION OF INITIATING AND UNDESIRED EVENTS
-DEVELOPMENT OF FAULT TREES
-DEVELOPMENT OF A RELIABILITY DATA BASE
-CALCULATION OF THE EXPECTED FREQUENCIES FOR THE DIFFERENT FAILURE CASES AND FORMATION OF RELEASE CATEGORIES
CONSEQUENCE ANALYSIS
-RELEASE CALCULATION
-DISPERSION CALCULATION (NEAR FIELD - FAR FIELD)
-ASSESSMENT OF HEALTH EFFECTS
POSSIBLE EXPLOSIONS AND FIRES, AS WELL AS TOXIC EFFECTS OF THE RELEASE, WILL BE CONSIDERED. IN CALCULATING HEALTH EFFECTS ON THE GENERAL PUBLIC COUNTERMEASURES WILL BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT.
SOME OF THE CALCULATIONS WILL BE REPEATED WITH COMMON BOUNDARIES AS SPECIFIED IN THE BENCHMARK PROPOSAL.
