PHYSICAL MODELLING OF TORCH FIRES

Objective

TO PREDICT THE EFFECTS OF LARGE FLAMES OR FIRES ON THE ENVIRONMENT WITH EMPHASIS ON RADIATION AND HEAT TRANSFER.

RISO'S SPECIFIC TASK WITHIN THE PROJECT WILL BE TO CARRY OUT FIELD EXPERIMENTS IN ORDER TO ENABLE THE VALIDATION OF WIND-TUNNEL MODELLING AND NUMERICAL TECHNIQUES. RISO WILL ALSO APPLY SIMPLE OWN NUMERICAL MODELS ON THE SITUATIONS STUDIED ON THE TEST SITE.
DURING THE FIRST STAGE OF THE PROJECT AVAILABLE FIELD DATA WILL BE COLLECTED ASSISTANCE WILL BE GIVEN TO THE SELECTION OF THE SITUATIONS TO BE STUDIED WITHIN THE PROJECT, A TEST SITE AND MEASURING EQUIPMENT FOR THE FIELD EXPERIMENTS WILL BE SELECTED AND FIELD TESTS FOR IDEALIZED SITUATIONS WITHOUT OBSTACLES WILL BE PERFORMED. AT THE END OF THE FIRST STAGE DATA OBTAINED FROM THE FIELD TESTS WILL BE ANALYSED.
DURING THE SECOND STAGE OF THE RPOJECT MORE COMPLEX SITUATIONS WITH SIMPLE OBSTACLES WILL BE STUDIED AT THE TEST SITE.
A FINAL REPORT ON THE RISO ACITIVITIES WILL BE PRODUCED. FURTHER RISO WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE TEXT OF AN EXECUTIVE SUMMARY ON THE TOTAL JOINT PROJECT BASED ON THE REPORTS OF THE OTHER PARTNERS.
