Objective
TO GENERATE SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION IN ORDER TO ELUCIDATE THE INTERFERENCE BETWEEN AIR POLLUTION AND KEY PHYSIOLOGICAL PROCESSES IN FOREST TREES.
THE PROPOSED RESEARCH PROGRAM ALLOWS A DETAILLED COMPARISON OF OPEN-TOP CHAMBER EXPERIMENTS WITH DIFFERENT TYPES OF FIELD INVESTIGATIONS.
CONTINUOUS MONITORING OF MICROCLIMATE AND IMMISSIONS IN THE CHAMBERS AND IN AMBIENT ATMOSPHERE YIELDS BASIC DATA FOR EVALUATING THE INFLUENCES OF THE CHAMBERS.
-REGISTRATION OF PLANT GROWTH AND VITALITY.
-INVESTIGATIONS ON PLANT MORPHOLOGY AND ANATOMY, INCLUDING LIGHT MICROSCOPIC EXPLORATION OF PHLOEME AND XYLEME OF NEEDLES AND SHOOTS AND SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPIC AND CHEMICAL ANALYSES OF CUTICULAR WAXES.
-STUDIES ON PHYSIOLOGICAL PARAMETERS LIKE COMPOSITION OF THE PIGMENTS, PRODUCTION OF ETHYLENE, STARCH CONTENT OF THE NEEDLES.
-DETERMINATION OF ECOPHYSIOLOGICAL PARAMETERS WITH REGARD TO REGULATION OF GAS EXCHANGE, RESPIRATION, PHOTOSYNTHETIC ACTIVITY AND NUTRIENT BALANCE.
THESE STUDIES ARE PLANNED FOR THE ASSESSMENT OF LONG-TERM EFFECTS INDUCED BY CHRONIC EXPOSURE TO LOW LEVEL AIR POLLUTANTS.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
