NOx emissions from cement manufacture and evaluation of various possibilities for NOx reduction in the cement industry

Objective

To study NOX emission reduction by use of low NOX burners, by the introduction of NH3 or ammonia water in the preheater/precalciner (SNCR process) and by staged combustion in the precalciner where the utilization of primary and secondary fuels will be tested.

The research project can be divided into the following subsectors :

1. Evaluation of the differences in NOX emission from selected cement plants;

2. primary NOX reduction methods;

3. SNCR Process (Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction);

4. staged combustion in the precalciner.

The investigations on the SNCR processes will be carried out at a normal rotary kiln with cyclone preheater and at a kiln system with cyclone preheater, precalciner and tertiary air duct.
