Spatial indicators for european nature conservation (SPIN)

Objective

The proposed project is focused on the development and testing of a coherent spatial indicator system based on multisensor satellite data and GIS to accomplish monitoring and management tasks in the context of NATURA2000. Spatial indicators will be derived either directly from imagery or from habitat and land cover maps based on advanced classifications methods. Indicators will assess fragmentation, spatial distribution and neighbourhood relations of key habitats. The ecological significance of indicators will be investigated through the relationship to functional (abiotic) landscape conditions and biodiversity data on the species level. The transfer of results into practical decision making tools will be assured through the development of an operational GIS. Users addressed are regional environmental authorities, forest departments, an environmental information centre and the European Environmental Agency.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.
