Experimental and numerical study of reactive flows in complex geometries with relevance to industrial safety for explosion protection

Objective

This experimental/ theoretical/numerical project aims at revealing the physical-chemical mechanisms of explosion, and at deriving innovative methods for explosion protection. Both LES and VLES modelling strategies, with appropriate models for combustion and for multi-phase flows, will be incorporated into modern field codes using high-performance supercomputing for large-scale explosion simulations in complex geometries. Specific experiments and theoretical/numerical analyses, including fluid-structure interactions, will be performed in order to develop improved predictive capabilities. Experiments will be carried out in high-quality explosion facilities with various gas mixtures and additives for conditions relevant to industrial safety. The work will result in appropriate predictive tools, and the outcomes will be of practical use for the refinement and optimisation of prevention/mitigation measures.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
