Wildland-urban area fire risk management

Objective

W.A.R.M. (Wild land-urban Area Fire Risk Management) project objectives, innovation and a detailed work plan are presented in this proposal. Wild land-Urban Interface (W-UI) Forest Fires are a major problem in several countries of Europe. A scientific approach is proposed here to complete a series of studies, experimentations and developments that will end up in a methodology and a computer-based Decision Support System. W.A.R.M. tool will assist wild land and urban planners to identify and solve forest fire risks to minimise losses and costs. Six case study areas have been selected in six different EU countries, where W-UI forest fires are a major concern of authorities and homeowners. Forest Services are willing to contribute with their experience to the development of the project. Public participation is a key activity in the project; an Internet project site will be set-up for that purpose.
