Instruments and networks for developing logistics towards sustainable territorial objectives

Objective

INNESTO addresses the current dichotomy between the EU orientation towards sustainable regional development and the current approach to logistics in the European market. Conventional logistics does not consider social and environmental costs and is dominated by large companies that jeopardise the autonomy of SMEs, economic districts, social communities and local authorities. There is a lack of instruments for sustainable district logistics. INNESTO will elaborate a sustainable district logistics approach that: integrates the latest developments in material flows management, logistics and sustainable quality management; develops innovative methods and tools; builds local community capacity for innovating local development strategies; makes it possible to reduce all logistics related costs in a shorts, medium and long term perspective; assures the INNESTO continuity at European level after the conclusion of the project.
