Objective
The proposal aims at increasing international recognition of geophysics and meteorology at the Charles University in Prague, and to finalise integration into the European Research Area. The proposing team has long tradition in research and education of the solid Earth and atmospheric dynamics. The innovation will consist in networking European researchers by means of organizing workshops, inviting lecturers, and hosting PhD students and post-docs. The research will be applied to environmental problems, such as climate change, pollution transport, earthquake hazard, and the energy problems, such as the oil exploration. The Centre will be based on strong existing international co-operation (including EC and NATO projects, and third-party projects with major oil companies). The national socio-economic impact will be mainly in the air-pollution studies. The Centre will increase attraction of the Earth's science studies for Czech students.
