Objective
Short summary:
The Accompanying Measure HMLS intends to support the organisation of an international symposium on remote high mountain lakes and streams, based on the completed EU-funded research projects ALPE-1, ALPE-2, MOLAR and AASER. This symposium will synthesise and discuss, at an international scientific level, newest results, recent achievements, trends and developments regarding the ecological quality of high mountain lakes and running waters, including their catchments in the perspective of global environmental and climatic changes versus local and regional impacts and national requirements. In addition, the conference will offer a one-day forum to the public, specifically addressing the diverse end-users of research in alpine areas, i.e. to present and explain scientific findings, hypotheses and management options to the interested public, and to interact with the stakeholders (such as electricity and skilift companies, representatives of tourist organisations, alpine clubs, environmental NGOs, regional and local politicians).
