Objective
Many R&D projects are being carried out worldwide and within the European Union on the long-term stability of vitrified nuclear waste.
The objectives of this topical workshop are to
(1) discuss the actual status of the understanding of the behaviour of nuclear waste glasses in their anticipated disposal environment,
(2) reach a consensus on the issues proposed in the workshop, and
(3) improve the focus of the future projects on nuclear waste glass. A topical workshop bringing together the international experts is an excellent approach for achieving these objectives. The results of the workshop should be an enhanced consensus, a better focus in future programmes, and Proceedings with all oral papers and poster presentations.
