Objective
The RISCOFF project will integrate intelligent acoustic and chemical sensors, wireless communications, GIS systems and command and control software in order to set-up and test a wide area fire alarm system which has a high potential to deliver a very rapid response time, leading to significantly reduced forest fire damage, and a low cost (per hectare) system which should be very attractive to forest preservation authorities throughout Europe and the world. The system will require EU wide RTD activities to refine acoustic and chemical sensor technology applying state of the art neural net based methods, GIS integrations and wireless communications. The project will impact environmental protection, safety, quality of life and employed in the forestry sector. The exploratory award will assist both proposal expansion and key aspects of technical and commercial feasibility.
