Estimates of ground motion and hazard assessment through earthquake scenarios

Objective

This proposal brings some basic contributions both to fundamental (physics of he earthquake generation process and seismic wave propagation) and to the applied (estimates of seismic input time histories for civil engineering purposes) science. In particular, the estimate of the earthquake related ground motion is a basic requirement for the construction of damage scenarios, for the effective assessment of seismic hazard and or the proper re-evaluation, presently in progress, of the existing building codes such as EUROCODE8. The trainees will master a state-of-the-art procedure for the optimal fruition of the existing relevant geo technical and geological data, for the deterministic ground motion modelling, and or the construction at seismic hazard scenarios. Further improvements and applications to this procedure are planned, in particular to any high-risk (e.g. nuclear power plant or dam locations, urban environments etc.) area of EU member states and elsewhere.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
