Objective The information available to coastal managers about physical state of the coastline from data, observations & scientific interpretation is complex to use. Coast View will bring together scientist & coastal zone managers with the objective of defining a set of video-derived Coastal State Indicators (CSIs), in aid of coastal zone management. CSIs can be defined as a minimum set of parameters that can quantitatively describe the dynamic state of a coastal system. Video systems will be produced that will be capable of collecting required data for the determination of CSIs on a time-scale appropriate to monitoring the coastal evolution. New theory / algorithms will be developed for evaluation of CSIs from video data. These algorithms will be verified by comparison with data from 4 different environments. Field sites have been selected with clearly defined management problems & associated end-users that form part of the consortium.
