Management of sustainable revitalising urban industrial sites

Objective

Within cities there are many smaller industrial sites surrounded by residential areas. These sites are often associated with a multitude of problems: out-dated infrastructure, non-compliance with environmental regulations, etc. The central hypothesis for this project is that the socio-economic development of cities needs a balanced supply of economic activities; local authorities are lacking tools and experience for an integrated strategy to redevelop these sites. For a vital economically robust city it is important that residents can live and work agreeably in their city. Municipal authorities are becoming aware of the importance of an integrated policy for environment and planning, economical and social aspects. The inner city industrial sites can potentially provide balanced economic activities The main objectives are to improve decision making with regard to economic activities within the urban and regional context; to provide authorities with knowledge and tools to create a new partnership with industry and public, based on awareness and openness to dialogue.
