Improvement of sustainable phaseolus production in Europe for human consumption

PHASELIEU was a Concerted Action financed by the European Commission, inside the FAIR Programme of RTD (FP4) from January-1998 until March-2001, with the overall objective of coordinating the on-going research on Phaseolus (common bean) and to elaborate an integrated strategy model for the improvement of Phaseolus production in Europe for human consumption. So the strategic aims of the project were the following ones: -The establishment of an EU wide network of experts. The project includes 13 partners from Spain, Portugal, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Austria and Israel, international organizations as IPGRI (Rome, Italy), CIAT (Cali, Colombia) AEP (European Association for Grain Legume Research, Paris, France) and some other European research groups are closely linked. -The organization of thematic workshops-group meetings and scientific exchanges. Five workshops and three specific meetings were celebrated in the period 1998-2001. -The publication of several scientific and technical documents: Five Technical Reports, two Handbooks and one Catalogue are already available. On the web site have been published also two Electronic Newsletters. All this publications are free available in CD-ROM and at the web site. Currently the participants in this project, together with other scientific and technical organizations are involved in a network devoted to the improvement and production of common bean: The PHASELIEU Network.
