Microscopy as a tool in pulp and paper research and development

Objective

The main objectives of the action are: raised new ideas from applications in materials science and in other areas such as medicine, biology etc. Competitiveness perform more specific research projects Microscopy is a tool of growing importance for the pulp and paper industry. Different microscopy techniques are used to identify and classify the basic structure and properties of single fibres as well as of paper. Microscopy specialists are relatively scarce and a European approach is therefore needed in order to create the necessary 'critical mass' for qualified interactions. A community support will promote input and sharing of knowledge and experience. It will also contribute to a more efficient technology transfer to the pulp and paper industry and its researchers and will increase communication and cooperation between industrial research institutions and academia. Activities After a planning phase, a symposium will be arranged with presentations of selected applications from the participants own research and from others conducting pulp and paper research as well as invited speakers from microscopy applications in other areas. Representatives from the pulp and paper industry in the EU community will be invited. Two workshops will be held where subjects, from below, are to be specified by the partners after the symposium. Documentation of the symposium and the workshops will be produced and spread to the industry. The following subjects are suggested areas that could be covered in the workshops: - Measurement methods for quantification, automatization and harmonization An important part will also be shorttime (1-2 weeks) exchange of researchers between participating organisations.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
